A3 Quattro build thread

finally got money together for new turbo:yes:
allready got exhaust mani. things should progress quicker now, thats two of the most expensive bits out the way.
very small chance of it all being ready to fit by end of feb, but realisticly, it'll be mid/end of march.
would like to get new clutch and flywheel fitted before turbo goes on........ its a never ending list

stil, should be a great car to drive

new turbo, turned up last week. its a 2871, .63. with a T25 flange.

desperatly wana get it on car now

:sorry: Im so jealous, I have just binned my BT project idea, I need to be thinking of deposits for buying a house and when i've made something of myself then maybe I can get on with it, I just dont earn enough here in cornwall, does anyone need any building work done?

not much work down your way then mate? we're lucky, bloke i work for keeps us going. 7 big houses to build already this year.

trouble is, i need to be saving for a house too

yep. plan was xternal, but i do need to try and keep costs down

yep. manifold is on way, i think bill said once its here, we can get started. shouldnt b 2 long now!

manifold turned up tail end of last week, and car gets droped off to bills on sunday (2morro).
cant wait to see how the thing drives. going to be a lil bit mental i think!

along with new turbo and fmic, a bigger intake manifold and R32 throttle body will be going on to, along with a vems egt gauge.

Hi Mat

You are gonna have to take me out for a spin in this once Bill's sorted it...

You never know, Bill might have another to do ;P

<tuffty/>

no problem mate, i'll post up on here as soon as its done. be a few weeks i think, its being done as and when, plus bills away for a few days.

i dont think you'd be disapointed with it, the parts i've seen all look good, built to quite a high spec, bill knows his stuff, so the cars in good hands.

What drop are your springs? you car looked lower than mine when they were parked up side by side earlier today.

only 30mm, but it does sit nice and low. 17inch s3 wheels on there

dont mean to sound rude, but who are you mate? as there were 2 silver s3's down there when i dropped car off. did i chat to you about brakes for a minute today?

Yes mate :)

You parked next to mine outside, the one inside was Bill's mates with dodgy oil pressure..

Cheers

Paul

ahhhh i'm with you now!

remember that problem with my alarm? i opened up that siren box, batterys had leaked over circuit board. bills ordered my 2 new battrys and cleaned board up. hopefully that should solve it. theres a post on here of how to do it

Yeah, thats a common problem... Bill showed me the circuit board... nasty!!

Still, look on the bright side... BIG TURBO BABY!!!!

Bring it! :eyebrows:

I am a little, I have thought about doing similar but not sure I can justify the expense. I bought my S3 thinking I wouldn't have to do anything to it as it was pretty sorted already. How wrong was I!!!!

I am keen to see how it all turns out, I like playing with cars and before having to do the family car thing I had Mk2 Escorts with 2ltr engines and twin carbs and built engines etc for them.

If I was gonna do it I would build the engine myself and fit it all in etc but get Bill to sort the mapping out obviously...

Can't wait for Bill to finish his race car either... planning on being there for the first race at combe providing he can finish his car :)

if you can fit stuff yourself, your save loads. though parts are still expensive. around £2k for turbo, manifold and d/pipe alone.

see how you like mine, i'll put money on you getting yours done next! :p

no major updates....

added a defi boost gauge to the list, so can keep a eye on boost, egts and AFR.

downpipes of the car, and new one is half made, looks neat and tidy so far, full 3"inch downpipe. that and the manifold goes off for ceramic coating then.

more updates in a week or so, and i'll try get some pics

Good work mate, I was over at Bill's last week while he was removing bits from your car... the downpipe had him cussing for a while ;P

i've managed to get a few pics.....
only on camera phone, time to invest in a decent cam i think!

and a view of mani from inside the drivers side wheel arch

i'l get some better pics once d/pipe and mani are back from being coated, hopefully bill can mock them up a spare motor.

right, as promised, lots more better quality pics :D
d/pipes made, and ready to be sent for ceramic coating, looks fantastic mocked up on a spare motor. A lot of time and hard work has gone into this, downpipe is a full 3", no shrinking down to fit, nice sweeping curves should make for good flow

its good to see parts coming together now.
not long to go till it gets fired up:D

Looking good mate... looks like Bill managed to get the lower V-Band on without hitting then...

Looks very nice. What kind of power are you looking to get at the end of it all?

a good 380 bhp. though with the bigger intake mani/tb. it could be more.
i'd put my money on between 380-400bhp

all being well, this should be finished and mapped this weekend. providing clutch holds up ok. new ones on order, just in case
pics and vids to follow soon

yea, what you playing at jim?? :p you was all set to beat me to it. be intresting to see what yours does.
