96 A4 bypass immobiliser?

a mate of mine reckoned he fried his ecu by taking the battery off with the ignition on.so he bought another one but the immobiliser won't let it start.i said you'd probably need the key for it.can anyone relate to this or shed any light please/cheers,phil.
 
You need to match the new ECU to the car using vagcom or similar.

Install the new ECU in the car
[Select]
[17 - Instruments]
[Adaptation - 10]
Leave channel at "00"
[Read]
[Save]


[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
[Exit]


Turn ignition OFF for 15 seconds. Start vehicle
