It's "debadged" to boot.

(I'm talking about debadging the front here. I was already aware that people debadge the back in a kind of 'keep em guessing' tactic as to the engine size of the car. BMW drivers take note: the tiny exhaust gives away the fact you only have a 316)

Debadging seems to be a phenomenon that happened while I was out of the country (I spent a year travelling). WHAT the **** is that all about? To me and I suspect anyone else who doesnt read Max Power and/or anyone who is over 16, it simply looks like someone has nicked the badge off the front of your car, or, the badge has been lost accidently/knocked off in a minor car accident. I think 99.9% of the population wouldn't even consider that it had been done on purpose, to try and improve the look of the car?

The only possible reason I can imagine for doing it is too try and disguise the make of car. You do see a lot of teeneagers driving around in Astra's/nova/escorts with laughable plasticy body addons who've "debadged" their car. Unfortatly it makes the car look even sh1tter, like they've spent all their time and pocket money modding up their car then some heartless bartsard has come and nicked the badge of the front. Again, I bet 99.9% of the general public (everyone who isnt a chav) thinks 'ahh bless him, having to drive around in that' and feel sorry for them.

"Debadging"? can someone please explain the reason behind this? And doing it to an Audi?! I can't even put my feelings into words for that one!

Phew! rant over. I need to have a lie down.

The reason behind it is simply that each person has his/her own individual taste and, within reason, they are entitled to do to their car as they fit. I agree the a4 without the rings on the bonnet grill just looks silly but each to their own.

btw its better to keep only one thread going /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

where you been travelling?

I have no audi badges on my car atall , not part of the "max power" brigade , just prefer clean smooth lines across the whole car , dont like things lookin cluttered if you know what i mean

I like the badges on my car, I can't say I really 'get' debadging either - but if you want to do it to your car and you like the look - you're entitled to do it.

What I can't understand though is why people put other badges on their cars. Like and S4 badge on an A4. The badges look cool for sure, but if you're trying to fool anyone it's just going to look like you have a slow-*** S4. I don't get it.

Confession, my first car was a mk 2 golf 1.3 which on which I put the full big bumper kits/skirts/arches...and erm a gti badge /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif Now im older and wiser /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I took the badges off our S4 so that the co workers can think it is the less expensive A4. What they don't know, won't hurt them.

Right then, rather than debadging the lot, and giving people the option of making the assumption that:

a) It's a 1.6

or

b) It's a 400 BHP monster

Why not come up with your own badges denoting exactly what you've got? GolfTTish has used letters from a Match and an SDI to read IHI, with a red I. Now that's clever, as Excursion said, and I couldn't agree more. And it looks stock, but has that 'one-off' quality, which is pretty cool.

All of you have a think, and let us know what you come up with.

Humerous suggestions welcome.

Drew.

My A4 was debadged when i bought it, I personally think it looks cleaner from the back to have no badges, and also I get the line "How can that be a Q if, I've heard you bark 2nd before?". I've never said I had a Q people just assume because theres nothing to go on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No need to get all emotional over the fact that some ppl debadge their cars. Its up to them what they do

I work for Mercedes, quite often brand new cars are debadged at the dealership. There was a guy last week who bought an E320 CDI, he`d had 18` AMG rims fitted as an optional extra and asked for the badges to be taken off the back and replaced with an AMG one, its to hide the fact that the car is`nt what it appears. He probably can`t afford an AMG so he`s fooling most ppl by puttin rims and a badge on

When I`m behind a brand new car and see all the crap that has been stuck on the back I can`t help thinkin how pathetic it looks, I don`t care if its a CDIT 12v Auto twin cam blah blah blahhhhhhhh

Yes I have debadged my A4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/fuck_you.gif
