I'm trying to talk myself into going into debt for this car, can you all give me advice on what to do. Is there any common faults on these, and what to look out for on it. It has a flappy paddle gearbox :rockwoot: and it has satnav where the dis is (is this satnav any good). coments positive and negative greatly welcome.

lovely engne really is, v6, tunable & still very economic tbh, I've been contemplating this for ages but an avant, prices have dropped drammatically & I need more boot space

Just check FSH & get maybe someone you know with vagcom to do a check on it aswell when you view car for test drive to make sure no obvious codes on ecu

sat nav can easily be changed as tbh rns nav is alot better overall, good thing is its quattro & derv with auto stronic so tbh cant go wrong, just make sure warranty covers gearbox & check the limits on claims aswell

oh check with audi the mileage on the services & when last done & see if mileage adds up since service, along with all repairs & work done to car, hpi etc etc sucking eggs I know but just in case

but test every single option on the car even the remote boot release, everything, as the little faults all add up when car bought & they will blag you by saying well we will pay half etc, thats how they always work.

thats another thing i forgot to ask, its now done over 50k so when is the cam belt due to be changed and £how much£

usually about 80k so dont worry about now, check with audi when & cost cause different stealers charge different hourly rates so no good quoting on here, but you've got 20-30k to go I believe

No mate, cambelts are normally done at the 50-60k mark now, as they have been known to go before the recommended 80k, better to be safe than sorry....talking from my experience on my S3, it cost me £270 for the cambelt and waterpump to be changed and that was at 60k i think...

I think for diesels its 80k and petrol 60k mate

Nah S3's were always 80k, had it for 7 years & this was always the thing I was always talking about with other S3 owners, everyone had it done at 80kish, either just before or after, mine was done after 80k

Preston Audi are now advising my Nov 2003 V6 2.5TDi Cambelt is changed now....and its only done 47K miles. I ain't getting it done right now, but will book it in in early Feb 09.
Preston Audi originally quoted me £600 to do the job WITHOUT waterpump changed which is advisable to get done at the same time.
Stafford Audi will do the cambelt and waterpump for £475 - on showing Preston Audi the evidence they said they would match it ! ...and you get a 2 year warranty and the confidence the jobs been done properly at a main dealer.....

47k, thats crap man, it doesnt need doing that early, they are just trying to get more work in the door to make up for no sales, dont be fooled by this horse ****, stealers are more & more ******* me of with there tactics for servicing & thing is 99% of people believe what there told & most service desks agents dont have a fecking clue about the cars, disgusts me really does

Every 60k miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. The cambelt ages aswell as wears out, so take that into consideration, I did my S3 on 52k miles and 6 years old as a precaution.

Fair one, but if I had 47k on a 5 year old car I would be changing it soonest. I know from experience if it goes it's gonna cost well well more than £475, and the delear won't listen to you bleating on about it breaking short of the changing interval either. As well as belts breaking pulleys and mounting bolts can fail etc etc ....

Isn't the 3.0TDI a chain cam engine? Pretty sure the only belt cams engines are the 1.9 and 2.0 TDIs. Everything larger is chain or gear driven.

No Audi don't have the brains to introduce a cam chain engine...as they like to see us punters having to fork out a sh*tload of cash whenever the cambelt needs changing.....its the one design feature that may make me return to BMW 3 series in the future !

(oh yeah and the fact that Audi mount their engines too far forward)

I wish that were true :banghead:

Are you guys definite on this? Everything I've read would indicate that it's a chain cam engine.

Plus, based on what I've read, VAG are re-introducing chain drive to many of their new engines.

If it's anyting like the 1.8T setup, then you have a Chain drive on one side of the engine connecting the Cams up, and on the otherside, you have the normal Cambelt which is run by the Crank and connects upto one of the Cams.

Sorry, me saying "I wish That were True" was reference to the fact that my 2.5 which has a cam belt has just broken. Twice. Which wouldn't have happened with a chain. I just assumed the 3.0's were the same, but will stand corrected. ;)

3.0Tdi's are most definitely cam chain... ;)

Yep my 2.5 V6 is cambelt, did it at 80k with new waterpump total price £750, and this was a specialist. The dealer quoted me £1000 and told me they were cheapest!
