Recommend a diesel engine oil.

Hi, time for a engine oil change if you guys could recommend me an engine oil

also first time i am doing oil+filter change/ my self any tips would also be helpful.

car is a 1.9tdi 130 51 reg
mileage 83000
last service was 4000 miles

i was thinking of shell helix 5w30 only problem is i can only seem to find 1 litre bottles of it!!

Castrol Magnatec, Castrol Edge, Shell Super Helix - As long as the oil is a brand name fully synthetic 5W30 it should be perfect, semi synthetics are not recommended except for 12 month lifespans and fully synth is longlife in most cases. Heres a list of audi/vw approved oils:

Must meet a whatever is in your manual as the PD engines can have wear on the cams for the PD injectors if you don't use the correct oil.

VW507.00 is the latest spec I believe

last year my Audi specialist put in Quantum oil in advising me that this is what the dealers use? it cost £52 for 5L and i am sure i got the remains of the bottle. I had a quick look under 'PD oil' in ebay link:- http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/?_nkw=pd+oil&_fromfsb=&_trksid=m270

They have lots for sale claiming to be 505.01 compliant has anyone used any? I notice the Quantum is Buy now £20 + 10P&P so may use this again.

Almost a snap here (1.9 TDi, 51, 85k).

I'm using Valvoline Durablend now, 5 litres for £20 and it meets the VW 505.01 spec for fixed interval servicing.

I'm changing oil at 6k miles, I like it, it's a good price and it works well with this engine.

Does it meet the VW specs? If not then don't use it.

Go with Castrol Edge from Costco if you can get it.

No guarantees. I don't trust any mechanic after experiencing so many f**k ups. Check the bottle to see what specs it meets.

Castrol Edge depending on viscosity will meet VW507.00 which is the latest spec from VAG
