radio volume problem!!!

Hi guys,

Has anyone heard of a company called O.E. Electronics.
This company claim they can fix the volume control by putting in a new controller in the head unit.
I just want to know if anyone heard of them.

No, but from what i have read audi should replace it FOC even if your car is old. It's a known issue and they appear to have extended the warranty on it.
 
Is this true about replacing the faulty part on the Audi HU's??

As others have mentioned is this true and where did you hear it?

The volume control on my Concert HU occasionally goes a bit mental... Sometimes when you try and turn the volume up the HU won't let you (well, it does but it zips straight back down to 0 again) and sometimes it kills all sound ouput altogether then slowly fades back in.

A little more info from Nu Boy would have been helpful!

The Audi Concert stereo as fitted to the A3/A4/A8 etc is infamous for having a microchip fault that manifests itself after a couple of thousand volume button 'twiddles' ie a few years use by either blasting everything out at full volume or by emitting no sound at all......it sometimes also being temperature dependant.
The fault doesn't lie with the rotary knob , but as stated with a memory chip inside, there are some electronic specialists who claim they can fix dodgy Concert stereos but I'd heard it could cost up to £80?
A few days ago on Ebay Stafford Audi were knocking out brand new Concerts for £99 , IMHO thats as cheap as getting someone to look at and try and fix an old unit ...................

mine plays up only when it's cold, below 5-6 deg

else it works fine. Don't know why.

Has anyone approached Audi regarding this comment made my Simch?

I would really like to know as I have bought an Audi 8L recently and this problem is quite annoying at times especially when I have a 14 month old son in the back.
 
I hate this about my car, Dont get me wrong I love Chris Moyals, but I am not a morning person and hate the cold so at 7:30am I dont want the added of frustrations of him screaming at me
 
you can still set the desired volume for the morning just before you remove the ignition key at night and leaving the radio power button on. I normally do this and don't have to play with the volume in the morning.
 
Be aware that this problem will only get worse. So if it starts to play up when the unit is cold, it will slowly get unbearable the more times you twiddle with the knob. Basically theres a memory chip that stores every twiddle of the knob. Unfortunately they forgot to allow this to be overwritten, so it only has 10,000 locations. Once these are full up, it will go into random volume mode.

I'm sure I saw a way to fix this issue...a American guy with an A6 did a step by step guide...i'll try and find it....
 
Doubt it, you need a new micro controller, new firmware and a new RAM chip. Obviously anything is possible but I wouldn't have thought it was a run of the mill DIY soldering job. Just replace the HU.

yep, saw that some time back. didn't save it :(

he even included pictures for every step.

It involved soldering and what part to buy iirc...

Very good point, unless your electronics are up to scratch and you have spare few hours to do it.....buy a new one
 
I saw some stuff on tt forum about a warranty claim. check it out. mine is ok touch wood!!
 
Would it be worth me stripping out the stereo completly and installing another type instead of the oem stereo?

I have a friend who has a MP3 type Sony stereo who he is willing to give me.

However will this render my cd 6 disc intercharger useless?
