Hello,

This is my first post as i have only been an audi owner for 1 day!

I picked up my 04 plate 1.8t avant (190) S-Line yesterday with 77k miles. Which i am really pleased with.

I understand these cars dont need the timing belt doing until 115k but im wanting to get it done soon.

I have phoned around & i have been quoted £420 from a local specialist to do the cambelt & change oil/fuel filter/air filter etc.

Is this a reasonable price as my other car is a VW golf GT TDI 130 & this cost £300

Also id like to ask other 1.8t (190) owners what the avg MPG should be. I filled it up with the 97ron fuel & im getting around 28MPG avg is this what other people are seeing?

Thanks.

£300 all in for the TDI 130 sounds good! i paid £445 for belt/pump and service on my a4 130 at a local specialist.

Ive got a 1.8T 190 Sport and a 04 plate and had the timing belt changed a few months ago at nearly 70k and cost just less than 300 quid inc full inspection. What you can do is buy the timing belt kit from your local German, French and Swedish parts including water pump etc for around £90 and just pay for the labour which should be in the region of 100 - 150. Re petrol consumpion the 1.8's are really poor - Im surprised you get 28 mph

TBH £420 for a service and cambelt sounds pretty damn good to me!. Or is it that I'm used to over £100 an hour 'London' labour..? !!

I don't use the car much around town (walk to work) so most of my driving is country and motorway. My DIS 2 is on about 30.5 mpg IIRC after about 55 hours. I can average over 35mpg on single journeys without much restraint. TBH I think that's fantastic for a 1600kg 4x4 235bhp estate car!!

BUB

28mpg average sounds about right for mixed driving I would reckon, I get around 23 - 25 with a lot of short journeys and a few longer not hanging about.

Are you sure the interval is 115K ? Thought that was just the normally aspirated 1.8 and 2.0 20v engine ?

im not actually sure now - the garage said it was 115k- what is the actual mileage it should be changed?

I personally wouldnt risk it at 115K the sooner the better. Peace of mind mate, peace of mind!
