Hi Guys,

I have recently bought an Audi a3 1.8tfsi 2014 no issues for a month then all of a sudden a warning light ‘engine oil low pressure switch off the engine’ appears.

1st visit to the local mechanic: oil change, oil filter & worked for a week then again sign came up.

2nd visit to the mechanic: a switch replaced for the engine oil pressure as it was broken, checked pressure in the oil pump it’s fine, cannot see any leaks, works again ok for a week and again the light comes on.

it only seems to appear at low revs going through slow moving traffic once I have been driving for 30mins plus.

my local mechanic has advised to book it in with Audi direct as it might be a software update or an Audi specialist, I have suggested to change the PCV valve and engine oil pump but any ideas or Audi independent garages you recommend in West London.

thanks

Vee

Hi Chefranov,

Thanks for the information I will have a look into this. It will be shame to get rid of the car, I’ve had 59 A4 tdi nothing like this so this is rather odd on these A3’s but will persevere to get it fixed

Hi,

I have the exact same issue on my audi a3 1.8T 2013. The low oil pressure warning would show when I have driven the car for 20-30 mins and when I come to a stop or when the car is idle. I have replaced oil pressure sensors and oil filter with oem but no difference.

Did you take Chefranovs advice and replace the Camshaft Bridge? Or do anything else to resolve this annoying issue.

Thnx

Hi

I haven’t had the camshaft bridge looked at as of yet. What I did do is take the car to Audi where they did an oil change and put in 5w40 in.
They advised age & mileage of the car to use thicker oil. Mine is a 2014 1.8T 80k.

The car does feel smoother and for about 3 months no issues then the sign came back on again this is when driving for about 30minutes stop/start journeys slow moving traffic and long journeys no issues. I took the car to an Audi/VW specialist in West London VRT-Slough they were quite knowledgeable about this issue as it is common for Audi A3 2013-2017 models. They have worked on a few where this issues happens, it can be multiple different issues and have said they would need to take the engine apart.

However due to the behaviour of my car it drives fine, no smoke, no hesitation they’d advised they will look at the car when the warning light comes up to bring it to them to look at. So I have been looking at costs from chefranovs has done to his car and been quoted £1k-1500 due to hours needed to fix the issue.

Hey,

Sorry to hear you are still facing this issue. I recently took my car to Audi specialists in South London and they were going through a process of elimination. They noticed that the pressure was low whilst the car is idle and recommended inspecting oil pump and pickup pipe and possibly replacing oil pump.

I took the car back and I'm thinking about getting the oil pickup pipe replaced in case that could be the root cause. I have seen this mentioned at

Does a camshaft bridge replacement cost above £1000? The warning on my car also happens intermittently especially when the car is idle after driving for about half an hour. The car drives smooth without issues.
