I'm not a great fan of the Diamond polish combined with grey paint finish on the 20-inch alloys on my FY SQ5. I much prefer the silver painted options that were used on the previous generation. There are plenty available to buy: only thing is, they have different fittings. Mine are 8J with ETA 39 offset. All 1st generation styles are 8.5J with ETA 33 offset. I’ve done a calculation on willtheyfit.com, and it says they’d sit 0.3mm closer to the suspension uprights on the inside and poke out 12.3mm further on the outside.
I’m fine with that but my concern is the clearance between the wheel spokes and front brake calipers. The gap there is minimal. Has anyone tried this and has it worked?

Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure they don’t. I had a 2nd gen a few years back and looked into this myself, others may say otherwise

@NevMan , when you say you looked into it, what did you try and what was the outcome. Logic tells me it shouldn’t be a problem because I’d expect the lower offset to draw the spokes away from the calipers rather than push them closer. I just don’t want to commit to a purchase without some reassurance first. Hence why I was asking if anyone had any experience of the mod.

Assuming the spoke design is identical you are correct, the lower offset should give you more calliper clearance than before. Always wise to test fit one before pulling the trigger but I think you’ll be ok.

Exactly; I’m trying to figure out how to get access to a wheel I can test fit.

Ok, so I’ve heard from an Audizine member who is running 8R 20-inch wheels on his FY SQ5.

Well after a great deal of searching and checking, I decided not to risk buying 8R wheel: instead I looked to aftermarket manufacturers and came up trumps with a set of MAM 20-inch split five spokers. They are 8.5J with an offset of ET30, which together result in 15mm of extra poke. The perfect look that I was aiming for.

Looks spot on, the perseverance paid off.

Thanks, @Nilz . What really pleases me about them is that to a casual observer, they look OEM. They’re actually very similar to the S5 wheels I had on my S4.

At the same time however, they’re good quality German after market wheels and not cheap Chinese replicas.

Bit like adding spacers then I guess? How much were they if you don’t mind me asking as looking at 20’s for winter running…
Just over £900 all in. They came from Rimstyle in Ashford. The overall effect in stance terms is equivalent to fitting 15mm spacers all round, but of course I was also aiming to change the looks as well as the stance. If I‘d had the OEM wheels refinished in silver and added spacers, I’d only have spent about £600, but of course I now have a spare set of OEM wheels to either sell or keep and add winter tyres to if I choose.
