Cam chain tensioner symptoms..

Have found when engine is up to temp, revving past 3000 there is one hell of a intermittent noise from top, back of engine area. Cars on 170k, from history, the inlet cam chain tensioner has never been replaced. Would this be a good suspect for the chain rattling sound?

Probably find the tensioner pad has broken off or worn if the chain is really slack they tend to wear through the cam cover so if you hearing a grating noise it could well be that its hitting the cam cover.

replace them with INA components they are basically OEM without VAG tax
