Hi folks
Looking for some opinions.
Thinking of servicing my s3 myself and doing the dsg and haldex service as well as the normal oil and filters since I have access to a ramp at my mates. Might need discs and pads all round as well.
My question is, is it worth doing myself? Or paying someone to do it?
Just thinking of losing a bit of the service history from dealers/specialists. So far it’s all dealer history.
Will the value of car drop cause I don’t have history from dealer other than receipts for the parts?
Planning to keep car for a 2-3 more years since nothing to buy and 12m waiting and that’s if your order doesn’t get cancelled.
Don’t want to lose hundreds or thousands in valise cause I did the work myself.
Cheers

I would at least get a Garage to service it mate this would retain some sort of kudos paper/digital service trail l am sure you can find out online the service history of your car/potential new owner

That’s what I was thinking. A full history will make it a bit more attractive for buyers.
Might get the service done at specialist then do the brakes and stuff myself. At least this way it’s stamped up to date.

Would your purchase invoices for parts not then backup any missing dealer stamps? In the past, for me only, if I went to look at a car and the seller went through all the paperwork, parts purchase invoices, which jobs were done DIY and those done by others, that showed to me a lot more attention to the car, assuming it’s a private buyer. If it’s a trade in, then I guess you have to play the game and have some sort of stamp action in your paperwork.

Depends on the time you keep the car, if the extra 3 years mean you drop into the 15/10k mark, would the non DIY stamps make THAT much of a difference?

I think selling to an enthusiast like yourself won’t make a huge difference as you guys care what’s been done and how it’s been done.
selling to joe public or trading it in could maybe make a difference.
It’s weighing up saving a couple of hundred quid and possibly losing a grand when I sell it 2 years or so from now. It’s how’s much would I lose without a dealer/specialist stamp is what I’m trying to gauge.
I must admit I’ve been a bit spoilt over the years with company cars, lease cars and pcp cars which I trade in before it’s 3rd/4th year.
just nothing out there. Local dealer offered me £2k equity on my current s3 for a new one(base spec with c&s pack) but monthly pcp goes up £130. Only put £1k down last time.
I have a black edition with tech pack and a few other retrofits. Feels like getting a lesser car for more money. Vorsprung edition, monthly pcp up £2-300, is the only other option but that’s like £10k over base and still no roof rails which I use a lot for carrying bikes and crap with the family.
hoping new car production sorts itself out soon.

I”m not the best person to talk about with this as I bought mine outright and plan on keeping it at least a decade. If you’re on the PCP rollercoaster than I’m less than equipped to assist, sorry dude. Pardon me for asking, but is keeping the car an extended period not an option?

Well just paid off the balloon payment so own it outright now. Looking at keeping it a couple of years at least now and see what the market is like. My worry is when things go wrong it’s not gonna be cheap. I.e £10k+ if dsg box blows up.
Im not adverse to keeping it longer. Was thinking going stage 2 tune if I do keep it which will be a bit of fun but then reliability could break the bank. Driven a few stage 1 and it’s plenty fast for my needs so maybe a quick remap and tcu tune might do the trick.

I read the turbo inlet pipe is a good one to do, even without the mapping. There may be other smaller supporting hardware items that will allow you to enjoy the car for as long as possible. W.r.t. STronic failures, surely with original parts invoices there’s some coverage for critical failures? This assumes you remain stock

well decided to go with the Audi all in one 2 year servicing/warranty plan. at £30 a month it’s a not a bad deal and car will have full Audi service history which might make a good sale in a couple of years.
however the plan doesn’t include the dsg or haldex service and obviously wear and tear stuff like discs and pads.
Was quoted by the dealer £260 for dsg service. Is that about right? It’s more expensive than the main service. Other thing they mentioned was it’s not due till 80k. Wouldn’t wait that long personally.

discs and pads all round seems to be in 4 figures so will be going aftermarket.

£260 doesn’t seem to bad for dealer, but I’d do it every 40k, which is what my indie quote.

Discs and pads all round 4 figures !! replaced mine with EBC slotted at £307 and pads at £150 , Is that Audi's inflated prices ?

Audi dealer prices. I stopped paying attention after I got prices for pads.
Think it was around £250 for front pads fitted then a little less for rears. Discs were roughly £100-150 each with rear slightly cheaper plus labour to fit as well. Maybe I misheard but there was other bits like shims, bolts and sensors as well.
been looking at the trw disc and pads all round. Had them on my a6 and they were great and low dust too. The disc hubs were well coated and no rusty hubs unlike the Audi factory discs which started rusting after a few weeks.

Sure it’s already been said but dealer stamps or good indie for service record and do all other bits and bobs like discs & pads yourself and keep receipts.

I got the all in one plan myself a few months back when the car turned 3 years old . 2 years servicing , warranty , roadside assistance and Mot's for £30 a month over 2 years is an absolute bargain especially for Audi .
