Just had my a$$ handed to me :-(

I'm just not a Golf fan, the newest ones are quite nice but all the other ones just had no interior/exterior pinash......not saying that an A3 has but i just think all the golfs are much of a muchness. I wouldnt say no to the R32 if offered, thats got beefy styling which is lovely

I still think my Mk2 Golf handles far better and is far quicker than many modern cars out there. When you get in the zone and start pushing, you can leave many machines way behind and the Mk2 will carry on and settle down as if nothing has happend. It depends on what you define by 'modern cars'. I had a Vauxhall Astra the other week and it didnt take long for TC light to come on (and stay on) as well as other dash lights. The driving experience was no where near as satisfying and I am sure my golf is quicker. Man the understeer in the Astra!

You say it yourself, overall, the Mk2 Gti is a better drive than S3. That i totally agree with although I would of rather the S3 prove me wrong as i spent so long finding the right one. I'm VAG biased generally tbh :)

hmmm, not a golf fan. very plain and blaaaaaaaa. I test drove the TDI GT before i bought my car, performs well but is plain, lacks personailty

Do you mnean the newer Golfs? I'm not a fan of those either although I hear the R32 is pretty sweet

i dont mind the new r32 the old one looks a bit tacky when next to an s3,and golfs are just too damn common!!!

i would like a mk2 golf again but in oak green 8v left original!

8v are more pokey , ive driven 16v's there good top end

yeah hot hatches nowadays are coming around more and more, i had a mitsubishi colt attack me on the motorway the other day. lol, once again i only lost him after flooring it right through 4th and 5th. all clear private roads of course.........turns out its only a 1.5 turbo but light like the ibiza.

Why do you feel the need to "race" other cars?? I believe the goal of tuning a car in to make it the best driving machine you can for the money you got. Then the challenge is to see if you can hook up a nice drive and know that you got every corner, braking point etc right.

Racing other cars is dangerous, especially against those you don't know. Who'll give in if you're only a bonnet's length ahead and there's people coming the other way???

With friends, it's somewhat different, as you know he'll let you in if you miscalculate. But someone who's got a point to prove?? Don't be so sure.

You know how many points you get for motor racing on the highway? Up to 11. Won't be driving a turbo motor for a while if you get one of those...

I guess some of ya will say I sound like an old man here, but I'm far from it! I bet there are some people who wouldn't like to see you in A&E cos of a stupid race.

Cheers :)

driving along......nice polished motor and some **** goes up my ****.

I think, tosser so pulled over, waited for him to start to go past and then put my foot down in third, and he absolutely flew past me!!!!!! Ibiza cupra R.

I was shocked and hurt, HURT! some bad boy handed it to me. Shocking, i'm gonna blame my driving and say i was in the wrong gear or sumin, either that or he had his motor uprated big styleeeeeeee,

stupid cheap Seats :faint:

Well seeing as tho you waited for him to get along side of you by slowing down he was already on the throttle & accelerating before you, so straight away you're playing catch up ;) He's picking up speed while you're just sat waiting for him to get along side you.

If roles had been reversed then things would've been pretty similar I reckon. There isn't a vast amount of difference between both cars. If you'd opened up the throttle a bit earlier then I don't think he'd have flown past as easy.

May have been the same guy, i'm over it now. lol. my car is still misfiring and i cant afford to take it to a specialist so i give up! i'm poor

You are right, and i'm not a nutter on the roads. However, in that circumstance the car had undertook three cars behind me then overtook another then went to undertake me, i closed the gap slightly so he couldnt cut me up and he swung back behind me. then once past the inside car went to undertake me again. By this point it was a safe straight road and i dont like being undertaken, thats stupid driving. Sorry.

So yes, you are right but also wrong. There is no need in having a powerful car in this country on these roads if you are going to abide by the rules 100% and i guarantee nearly everyone on this forum does not cruise at just below the speed limit, its about getting the right balance of good safe driving and enjoying your car. Point taken though

You reckon a Fabia vRS remapped to 180-200bhp would take out a 1.8T or S3?

I try and not get involved with idiot drivers. Those who undertake swerving in and out of traffic are an accident waiting to happen, and you're doing yourself no favours by getting closer to him. You don't wanna be involved in his accident/roll/cartwheel when he clips someone's nearside corner cutting them up!

You can enjoy your car even with 300+ bhp, even on UK roads. There aren't many places you can attempt to max your car safely, so wait til you go to Germany. I don't know about you, but I'd be F***ed without a license, so the limited rush of 100+mph isn't worth the risk. I enjoy spirited driving within the limits (sometimes) a lot more! I do not cruise just under the speed limit, but make good progress when it is safe to do so.

If you get pulled doing 90 in the outside lane of a dual carriageway at 6pm of friday night, the BIB might see you in court for dangerous driving/driving without reasonable consideration for other road users.

If I get stopped doing 80 on a empty single carriageway road at 6am Sunday, but can explain that it is safe to do so, and why by the principles spelled out in Roadcraft, they might take a lighter view of it.

My point is you have to drive to the conditions.

Cheers

i'd kill for an S3 modified...........corsa,,,, erm NO! if i pull up to a first date in my car all nice and clean it gets a wow, and most people respect it, pull up in a corsa no matter how fast it is...................its still a corsa

not if you arrive in muppetsport's ~450bhp corsa :hubbahubba:

if you are here arguing about getting your *** handed by anothe car, then it's clearly about power, not looks and cleanliness....

BTW, I would prefer people respecting ME instead of my car...:)

My freind has a mapped vrs tdi? is that what your talkin about? he had 180 bhp and 300 ft/lb torque. and he was quick but wouldnt take on an S3. Didnt go too nuts with him but we were equal ish, i was slighly faster lower speeds and he was better when we were on the motorway.

My car was standard at the time at 163 bhp

hmmm, boff! i used to drive a metro. i'm sure at 6"1 in height i looked silly and now i look better in my audi. But at least that cost me £500 not £9k.........u dont get respect for a car....but u look better in one than another. I'm buying a house soon so i'l be selling my car.......cost me far too much as much .....as much as i love it. Gonna buy an 1988 pug 205 gti. £500 job done lol! bye bye audi forum.:bye:

Banger power wahooooooooooooo

arnt the new cupra's 225 bhp, thought i might try and make you feel better!

If you are on about the new LCR's, they are 240BHP IIRC, a detuned version of the S3(8P) unit, still mappable to 300BHP!
