I bought my S3 about a year ago and it now needs its first service.
The car is a 2000 model and has done about 98K miles.

Edinburgh Audi quoted me
£330 for servicing
+ £150 Haldex
+ £102 Brake Fluid

Western Audi
Service - £210
Brake Fluid - Depends if required
Haldex - Depends if required

Edinburgh Audi & Volkswagen Specialists (Though not sure they are still called this)
£150 Service
+ Brake Fluid (£30 labour + price of brake fluid)

The car has a full Audi service history so I'd like to keep things that way. Edinburgh Audi are the main franchise dealer but seem expensive. I think Edinburgh Audi & Volkswagen Specialists may have been taken over by another group so this wouldn't be an approved Audi garage?

Would I be as well taking the car to any garage if its not an approved audi garage?

Can anyone else recommend any other approved Audi garages in the area?

I know its a bit of a trek, but when i was looking for s3's in the Edinburgh area I was told too avoid Edinburgh Audi and go to Perth.

If its had audi servicing all its life then it would be a shame to stop it, but imo i would go to specialist, hope thats cleared things up for you! lol

Whereabout in Edinburgh are you, not seen that many about, an get some pics up!

ditto on Star. I am in Aberdeen and I think I'll make the drive to Star. I go to Edinburgh so with proper planning it should be ok...?

Has the timing belt, water pump, tensioner etc. NOT been done yet? Its getting time. I take it thats what the price of the "service" was for? I tend to OVER maintain a car, the price of being an engineer ..:blow:

98k and first service? belt was meant to be done before 80k.
I don't do main dealers I am afraid, but then my car is a 99.

do you think it is worth the extra cost on a 2000Y car to o main dealer?

yer after the car has passed its manufacturers warranty period (3yrs) i dont think it needs to go to audi for servicing etc.
an audi specialist would be just as good if not better, and way cheaper. You cant really loose anymore money on future value from not going to audi

as longs as everything is done (haldex etc) it should be fine avoiding stealers

Another vote for Star Performance. jim has looked after my car for almost 100k miles, helped with upgrades, given his opinion, saved me money on servicing and basically done a brilliant job.

I was in Edinburgh Audi today (nice S5 in at the moment...), and had the usual treatment. That is, in for 25 mins before someone asked if they could help me. By that time I had sat in 4 cars to the obvious disgust from the look on the sales team faces, and just nosed around. I had a laugh with the guy that did approach me about this being usual tratment and the fact that I have to dress up in business clothes before getting recognised. (I had gone round on a motorcycle today). Maybe they think bikers dont have incomes and disposable cash.

I was interested in this as I have "mystery shopped" a few places as research for a training event on customer care I will be running for Mercedes Benz.... The best so far is Porsche by a long shot.... even dressed in the same bike gear, they never batted an eyelid when I wanted to hire a 996 turbo for the farther in laww's 65th birthday.... impeccable.

If time wasn't an issue Star Performance would be my choice but its easier for me if its somewhere local as I need to be able to get to work.

I might not go to the main dealer - £210 just for the service seems a lot. If i need Haldex or brake fluid they are going to charge me plenty.

The car had the timing belt changed at 60K - I'm not sure what else has been done - I'll need to check the reciepts.
What else is likely to be needed at 100k?

I'm in Musselburgh - Will try and post some pics up.

Why dont you just service it yourself for all of about £40-50 tops

Called star performance and was quoted £136 for the service - can do Saturdays as well so I'm going to go there.

I can't remember costs but I had my AVS service done at Audi/Volkswagen place on Gorgie Rd (don't rememebr name of that either). They were cheaper than the other branches by quite a bit including Perth.

I also had the timing belt, etc changed about Chritmas time. Stirling was the cheapest by miles. They were very helpful and friendly. I reckon it was worth the half hour drive.

I've not been to Star though I do hear good reports of them. I plan to get a remap fairly soon so will prob be heading through some time soon.

Autowerks. they closed down, they did a couple of my audis for me, top drawer service, but apparently one of the managers was up to something dodgy.....I mean Gary Glitter dodgy, not fingers in till dodgy.

The brains behind it set up on his own and runs Car Craft where I now go.
They were on Robertson avenue round the corner from Gorgie road and have just moved (2 weeks).
Ring neil on 0131 313 2223, think the number is the same but they have a sign on the old door. will check tomorrow

I got my service including timing belt and water pump done by my next door neighbour who runs a garage in glasgow, very cheap labour and he is a VAG specialist, used to rally audi's when he was younger and is very clued up on S3's

He has a nogaro blue RS2 for sale (M reg) if anyone is interested

PM me for his contact details

you wont be disapointed at star! i go down from inverness! the drive up the A9 is always enjoyable after each an every mod!
