My daughter has just been given an A3 from her Grandad that has a blocked DPF, I know these things are a bit of a nightmare but Dad has been tasked with sorting it and I want to know what the options are before I get into it.

When you start the car up you can stink the exhaust gasses in the engine bay and if you put your hand over the exhaust there is next to nothing coming out so clearly the DPF is well blocked and the exhaust gasses are being forced out before the DPF. I have read that turbo oil leaks can cause DPF issues but I can only see the usual light smear of oil in the intercooler pipes and no oil loss has been noted.

I can see the DPF at the back left, is it as much of a pain to remove as it looks at first glance?

Being a pre Euro 5 can I gut the DPF is is this a no no?

If gutting is a no no, do any of these DPF cleaning solutions actually work and if so what is recommended?

Any pointers would be much appreciated before I start. Thanks...

Give it a good clean..

LMAO. So that is what is inside the DPF. Can I just gut it and replace it or is it not that simple?

OK cool. Can I delete it with VAG.com or a similar cheap(ish) software tool or do I need a specialist? :icon thumright:

Wow, just found a YouTube video that shows the entire subframe removed to get access to drop the DPF out. Nothing like simple LOL.

There are companies that will do this, I had it done to a Volvo about 5 years ago.
The DPF 'clean' and remap was all part of the service and a fair price too.
No idea where you live, but the company that did mine was based in Banbury.
