My daughter has just been given an A3 from her Grandad that has a blocked DPF, I know these things are a bit of a nightmare but Dad has been tasked with sorting it and I want to know what the options are before I get into it.
When you start the car up you can stink the exhaust gasses in the engine bay and if you put your hand over the exhaust there is next to nothing coming out so clearly the DPF is well blocked and the exhaust gasses are being forced out before the DPF. I have read that turbo oil leaks can cause DPF issues but I can only see the usual light smear of oil in the intercooler pipes and no oil loss has been noted.
I can see the DPF at the back left, is it as much of a pain to remove as it looks at first glance?
Being a pre Euro 5 can I gut the DPF is is this a no no?
If gutting is a no no, do any of these DPF cleaning solutions actually work and if so what is recommended?
Any pointers would be much appreciated before I start. Thanks...
