So today, I decided to plasti-dip my exhaust tips black (as i have done with my last 3 Audi's) as i cant stand the pain of keeping the chrome clean and IMO looks great!
but whilst doing it, i stumbled across a design flaw, just under the exhaust tips is a big void, which was squidgy, so i raked it out and it was all mud and debris!!! ive know this in the past with my A6's but never to this scale!
there was LOADS! and i truly dont go offroading or on any particularly muddy roads!
thought id share in case anyone wants to check theirs... cant be good to leave it all there!
see the pics

The 'void' is deliberately there so that if the car is ordered with a tow hitch they then do not have to install another rear trim. We all have one and is referred to in a thread hundreds of posts ago. A design flaw it is not and I have never had any mud in mine, it is as clean as a whistle.

I mean, having a large ‘cubby hole’ type gap right behind the wheel arches at the rear of a car, kind of is a design error in my opinion! It’s asking to be filled with crap! My last A6 had the same shape exhaust tips and similar area, but there wasn’t a great big void there!
Well I guess you’re lucky that it hasn’t collected there for you, The reason is prob because you have the saloon... Avant’s notoriously Chuck up plenty of muck up the rear, I guess you can count that as an advantage point saloon

We might be referring to different 'voids' and there might be a difference between our different year groups. Can't really see from your pictures where this void actually is. Sorry but I think you might have to get on your hands and knees and take a picture under the rear bumber. The design of a avant to a saloon has nothing to do with how much muck is thrown up by the rear wheels but how much the airflow deposits on the rear hatch and window...
