Anyone what the marks are or how to tell if the crank is in the tdc position with the engine out of the car? Engines a tdi 110 afn

you can put a screwdriver into no.1 cylinder and see when it rises to the top and then match it up with a mark on the crank pulley.

How is he going to get this screwdriver in to the combustion chamber

Why would it be any different if it were in or out of the car?

There is a mark on the crank pulley and a casting on the block that will ine up at TDC. Why do you want to know anyway?

The problem is is that the cam belt is not on the engine and it has been moved so trying to figure out where the crankshaft should be?

Must be thinking of taking spark plug out senario but diesel engine.....Pulley as you say or the fly wheel has mark on it as well

sorry i didn't read the TDI part of the post.........................

from memory there is a mark on the crank pulley and a pointer at about 10 o'clock as you look at the pulley, there is also a hole at about 7 o'clock on the camshaft pulley that an allen key or drill bit will fit into to lock the camshaft pulley at tdc.
