Hi

Scanning the Audi website it advises fixed service interval for <10,000 miles and short journeys. I do about 8,000 miles a year. Journeys are typically 15 miles-30 miles. Is that considered short? Which interval should I be on?

Thanks, Kris

You should be on annual fixed servicing.

Just had mine serviced at 4,000 dealer used Mobil Super 3000V which is not fully synthetic , has prompted me to keep it on annual rather than change to variable (which I was going to do after first oil change).

Was that an Audi dealer?

I would want to know if that oil is approved by Audi. If not, I'd expect them to replace it with oil that is.

Yes it's approved and meets basic requirements but it's not fully synthetic. Needs to be changed yearly.

riddle me this.....

if a car does 9000 miles a year, what interval should it be on? it's less than 10,000, so fixed, but over two years its 18000, so also flexible

Whatever suits you!

However, if you were doing mostly short journeys then fixed may be better.

They actually say 19000 miles for flexible I think, maybe for this reason ;)

If i was doing less than 10k, I'd be doing fixed. I've done just over 11.5k since I bought the car 11 months ago though still not sure how/when I plan to service it.

My cars currently in having an oil change service, my feeling that £150 for an interim service every two years is peanuts in the grander scheme of things. A lot can go wrong in between two year intervals!

I agree £150 is peanuts.....but the majority of Audi dealers will charge quite a bit more than that for an oil change service. :(

£170 fixed price for oil change service at dealer (over 3yrs old). I went with a recommended specialist as Audi (incorrectly) insisted I needed a major service and filter this and filter that even though they knew the service history on their system :/ after that not sure I could trust them

The important point there is "over 3 years old".
Dealers reduce their prices for carrying out the same service to try and keep your business after the car is out of the original 3 year manufacturer warranty.

Fixed since it's mileage or time frame, whichever comes first so I believe

The whole thing is silly, isn't it? If the car can work out how often it needs servicing anyway (extended servicing mode), it should be able to figure out when you do low mileage/short trips anyway. I just don't get why they bother to make users choose.

It's always a difficult one this - I generally do 8000 miles approx. and mainly short journeys so I usually get the oil change come up within the year.

However this year I've done some longer journeys and currently since March I have done 5000 miles and the MMI says oil change another 7200 miles - I will therefore probably get to 14 or 15 months before I'm instructed to give an arm away for an oil change so leaving it on flexible does have it's advantages.

If you do less than the 10K with shorter journeys it will flag up anyway

But then how do you get to 19000 miles/ 2 years? just playing devils advocate...
Ah yes, I do over 20k a year so mine's due soon so I forgot that the 20k oil change is every 2 years. When I read in the document that I got when I got the car, it said that the 10k one is for people who drive short journeys, primarily around town and the 20k interval is for people who do long, motorway commuting.
