Hey guys,

Hope I've put this in the right place.
I've owned an absolutly beautiful 2011 Audi a3 S-line black edition sport back since June, it is literally a dream to look at (think the prev owner done bodywork upgrades) let alone drive!

Although it is a dream, I am fully aware that I have bought a car that likes long journeys, when to be honest, I do them not so often. So as you can imagine.. I had the dpf warning light come on about 2 days ago! But only for 10 minutes then it went off!

I was fully aware of what it was and took it down a 40 mile stretch of the M4 and back just to be on the safe side. Above 2000rpm over 50mph.

Basically my Questions are, is it worth having the dpf removed and have the CPU mapped? Will it still pass the MOT? Do I need to upgrade anything in the engine if i do decide to go for it? Its 138bhp and has done 110,000 miles (doesnt feel like its done 10,000) cam belt and water pump done at around 70,000 miles also.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks!

I had this done a few years ago and the improvement is amazing (2006 A3 170 Quattro). I had the EGR removed at the same time. All done by Unicorn Developments - might be a good idea to give them a call.

The only problem I had was the flywheel and clutch had to be changed. Not had a problem since and do not regret it one bit.

DPF removal is an MOT failure. Some people will hallow out their DPF so it looks like it's still there, but is actually an empty can, and at the moment it is a pass. However I have read VOSA are looking at ways to check for this during the MOT and if they do introduce a way to do it then they will also be an MOT failure.

Personally I wouldnt bother with DPF removal etc as already said the MOT is changing and your gonna be knackered when it does.

I've done over 24 k in my 170 TDI now and not once seen the DPF light come on. I've felt when its doing a DPF regen as when I pull up at lights it has a deep humming noise as the front fans always come on and get a burning smell.

If you only do low miles I would invest in VCDS and a cable and use it to check the soot levels maybe once a month and do a manual regen to keep it clean. You will be able to see if its tried to do a regen and failed if you stopped mid way through etc.

Agreed.. garages are now getting find and MOT rights are being removed due to DPF gutting service and MOT laws are changing. you will end up having to have it put back in and remapped again. the engine will get hot and fans run to cool the engine down which is all normal.. just drop it down a gear when you leg gets warm ;-)

All speculation..

The only change I've seen is those dpf removal garages who are also MOT stations no longer offer it .

Dpf removal and egr off is fantastic as your car breathes nothing but clean cold filtered air and reduced back pressure from not having soot in the fine long channels of a dpf , both reduce efficiency so power and mpg down .

Standard map is often poor with turbo lag , power dropping off early and a torque spike .

Then there's Stage 1 remapping , the car will run like a dream , quieter , smoother and more powerful than before , with dpf removed 6 mpg gain non VAG here and a 15mpg on a Ford S max I recently recall somewhere else .

I was thinking of a stage 1 remap anyway as 1. Its obviously faster, but 2. I've heard you get better fuel economy also (if your not ragging it everywhere) is this true? And is it better for the engine? Could just do this and leave the dpf in there then?

Thanks

233,000 miles, not had a DPF or EGR problems.

I had a good quality stage one, REVO remap and didn't bother with EGR delete or DPF removal.

My logic, its there for a reason.

Like I say, 233,000 miles, DPF has not come on once in 5 years.
I bought the car with 40,000 miles on the clock.

People will also say your HEX is going to fail, well not done so yet after 233,000 miles!!
Plus how many have failed % wise compared to how many VAGs out there!
