Remapping 1998 V6 2.5tdi Q

I am looking into having my motor remapped.

Can someone else confirm that to remap my motor I will need a new chip fitting?

Has anyone else just had this done?

I thought it was just a flashing of software?

My 2001 model needed a new chip, but it may well vary according to your engine management unit and if your tuner of choice has the right lead to match the cars VAG socket. Takes a bit longer than a flash but not a problem.

Now done over 40k miles with chip without problem.
I note that your car is a Tiptronic. Be VERY careful that modifying the engine output doesn't screw up the auto. I'm sure theres a thread somewhere about someone having problems but can't find it right now. Ask your proposed tuner about it before you do anything.
