Hi my A3 1.9 tdi 2009 driver door lock wont work I have to use the key also the passenger door I have to press the fob twice for it to open. Can any one recommend where to buy a new lock and what sort I need? and who can do it for cheap?

Pressing fob twice to open passenger door is a setting needed to be adjusted in the driver information screen On your dash...
As for the faulty lock use this video to get a rough idea on how to change it and that is most likely what you need.
But first do a vcds scan if you have someone near you to scan as it could tell you what the main problem is

As Tim says above, drivers door lock probably broken. The double pressing of the remote is also needed for the rear passenger doors and rear hatch, it is a security feature that can be selected in vcds. It did come in handy for my wife who used to work late in the evenings and come home on her own. One click of the remote allowed just the drivers door to open for her to get in the car start the engine and drive off, the other locked doors prevented any miscreants opening the passenger doors at the same time. The feature is easily changed, you just need a local vcds user or a VAG garage to change the options.

hi thanks for the replies which part or parts do I need to buy to fix this problem on the drivers side? or am I best getting someone to use the diagnostics on my car find the fault then buy the parts?

If you cannot hear the solenoid clunk when you press the remote open button, the chances are it's just the solenoid needs changing. Always best to take the door card off (as in Tims video) and see what's happening in there.
If you can hear a clunk and see the cable move, the cable may have become detached or the actual lock lever maybe broke/loose.

Sorry if I end up hijacking the thread ! But if it's completely Irrelevant let me know and I will post up a new thread, I am getting fed up with my a3 as it just seems to be 1 thing after another, at the moment when I close my doors, locked or unlocked I can hear a clicking which sounds like a relay from the driver rear quarter, if I've got my door open its fine, if i shut it, it happens straight away, not sure if it's like it when it's running because I can't hear it. My passenger door isn't recognised when it's opened which suggests the micro switch but the clicking noise happens when the drivers door gets shut

Thanks in advance !

Driver's side door not locking could also be a broken wire in the door loom (where it meets the body; a poor design that squashes and bends the wiring everytime you open and close the door, hence broken wires).

I hear a clunk but it doesn't lock with the fob?

You need to take the door card of, it sounds like mechanical type problem with the lock.

I might just take to local garage and buy the part my self then get them to fit it. Not to sure if I could diagnose the problem my self by looking at it

Having problem finding a good door latch off eBay that will fit my car. A 2008 or under won't fit it will it?

Sorry for bombarding but I've got the same problem with a 2004 3dr A3, the throb does not lock the drivers door and I have to use the key manually. I would like this to be fixed been quoted £200+ from an electronic specialist which as not even seen the car so i've avoided, I can't hear no clunks other than the other door and boot clunk and they lock fine. Also the same door when opened does not show on the screen like when the boot or passenger door is open or not closed properly.

I got quoted £250 all in at a local garage, it's a pain isn't it mate! Mine works sometimes and other times doesn't it hasn't worked for days and tonight it starts working randomly. Best bet mate is buy the catch your self and pay them labour to fit it! Sounds like more than a catch fault on yours though

So what do you think with mine, it needs a whole new door lock mechanism motor?

Would that need coding or would it be plug and play d'ya know?

Yours just sounds like the solenoid is kaput or the wiring to it loose/disconnected.

-----and yours needs investigating before you buy anything, also see post 7, as it's intermittent, it's looking as this is the most likely cause.

Soot1, do you know what solenoid may be needed after checking wiring? Or what solenoid part to search for 3dr Audi A3 2004 8P1 2.0 TDI 16V

What is necessary when fitting the drivers door lock mechanism motor, does anybody know?

Is it possible this solenoid may also have something to do with my drivers side electric window not working?

I will get someone to open the door up and check it out first and go from there as to buying parts. What part numbers am I looking at its a A3 2009 1.9tdi sport is it the 8p face lift one?
