been looking for some new wheels for my 97 a4 i am after 17" but when i look at adverts on ebay etc all i see is a confusing array of numbers rather than them telling if it will fit my car. what are these confusing codes and how are they cracked?

you needa 5x 112 fitment - this is the stud pattern & measurements I'm not sure of the offset its either 35 or 45, I'm sure there will be someone correct me if I'm wrong 
5 x 112 and an offset between et35 and 42 will be fine without significant lowering, if you are looking to lower it, it will need to be more like et35
