Should the headlamp washers work with the screen washers? ie if I wash the windscreen, the Headlamp washers should activate as well? Or am I missing a button somwhere that does the headlamps?

The headlight washers only work when the lights are on

Yep they only work when the light are on and if you hold the windscreen washers on, not just a quick squirt.
