from volvo to s4

hi all ive just baught my first s4 avant , its a 98 reg and its gorgeouse... ive got a couple of questions for you though.
1... is it normal for the turbos to kick in at about 4200 rpm
2 ... is it an engine out job if i ever need new ones?
3...occasionally when the fuel gets below half , the gauge will drop right down and put the warning symbol on, this usually happens when im braking.
anyone know why?
the car is standard with full audi history.

My turbo's start to kick in around 2300rpm, it used to suffer from delayed boost untill i changed the MAF..

Petrol sensor is at the back of the tank, you'll find whilst going up hill it looks like you have more petrol.
