Hi
I'm thinking about buying some 2nd hand Zenon's for my A4/B8/Avant, I have a question about the actual fitting, a local indi Audi specialist told me the entire front end has to come off to remove the head lights, people selling them on the net say the lights just unbolt and slide forwards and no need to remove the grill/bumper...
Can anyone confirm which it is?
Also the local indi said I need to buy a wiring loom that routes back to the ECU (£100 + vat), but I have seen Kufatec adaptors. which are much shorter (and cheaper) and seem to just plug into the loom near the light.

The local indi quoted me £1600 + vat to supply and fit the Zenons... I don't think the halogens are that bad....

Any thoughts, anyone done this?
thanks

PS: I know that there are supposed to be washers with Zenon but I don't have them, I'm hoping that most MOT stations won't be that fussy about it...

I can supply/fit the headlights, I don't use adapters, I rewire as per factory, PM if of interest.

Thanks, I cannot find how to PM but have started a 'Conversation', maybe that's what you meant :)

I'm in the same place, with a (small) list of changes to make the car into what I wanted.
But for a secondhand car, you should have some splash left for these goodies.
Thing is, get the awkward goodies in the car, and add the simple ones.

Oh, and about the headlights, yes, it can be easier to take the bumper off, which becomes a quick task once you've done it a couple of times. (Relates to B7, but pictures imply philosophy is true for B8 too)

No need to remove bumper

As above, no need to remove bumper, check out "front grille replacement" in b8 Modification List, it shows you how to remove headlights with bumper in place.

Sorry for the duff gen; teach me for thinking anything reads across from one A4 standard to another.

I can't believe the indi is saying that you need to remove the bumper to change the lights, this is simply not true on the B8 and even if they really had to remove the bumper it's a 15 minute job with a car lift. Unless they are installing headlamp washers as well. The price they have quoted £1600 + vat is that all new parts ?
Audi supply a tool in the boot, a long double ended torx screwdriver, and instructions in the handbook on how to remove the headlight. Look in the handbook on bulb changing.

And what about the self leveing mechanism are you going to fit that as well as there is no adjustment to the beams from inside the car, which with the washers is an MOT requirement

Is the self-levelling a static item, or does it change the set-point with speed or acceleration?
I seem to remember reading in the manual that it compensates for load and acceleration (so pretty rapid response) but no mention of speed.
On previous less well equipped cars, I tend to set the dip just under the horizon, so it doesn't dazzle, but does provide good lighting in the dip mode; from that perspective, the A4's lights are a bit close for fast work (but wonderful on high beam).
So, before I tinker, should there be a speed term in the headlight control, or will the setting be the same for all speeds?

Ran (Drove) some tests last night, and no change to the upper edge of the dip pattern.
So seems I will have to adjust them up!
