Avant roof cross bar position

Hi,
Managed to buy some original Audi roof cross bars from someone at work for £20. Bargain !
Can anyone clarify the postion they should be fitted on the roof rails ?
There are dot markings on the roof rails, but the rear of these seem too far forward - do these indicate where they should be mounted behind ?

I think you can put them anywhere depending on the load you're carrying. I always mount mine towards the rear and adjust the gap according to the length of load.

put mine rear of the middle mount on the rail (other side of the post)
