Evening all after a bit of advice, on my way to work this evening i pulled out to overtake a car on a dual carriageway and when I went to put my foot down got a lot of smoke out the back and then the engine sounded like a tractor! i'm assuming the worst....Just wondered if anyone could confirm what the issue is before I start ringing round for a mechanic on monday!

Thanks guys!

We're gonna need some more information before we can guess what's up...

For example, what colour smoke was it? If it's black it could be a boost leak issue.

Did you lose power also?

Had any work done recently?

Same old answer im afraid, but always best to get diagnostic scan carried out to help diagnose these things

Hi mate, Dark blue smoke, loss of power yes bit like lag, no work done recently, no engine lights or indicators just sounded like when you have a hole in the exhaust every time i put my foot down you could hear it blowing/getting louder??

Egr cooler pipe too manifold would be my first place too take a look take it there's no lights on the dash, common problem is were the pipe breaks between these too components look for black soot

Yes now we have that information agreed. Whip off the engine cover and look to see if the foam underneath is saturated in gunk

Also worth knowing that some people get there egr coolers replaced free as good will guesture by audi as its a known fault that the welds crack/fail.

Previous owner of mine had it replaced free by a dealer

Will it have caused any damage to the engine at all?? Thx for the info I'll have a look after I get up, off to bed now been on nights!

Urghh nights, I remember those!

It ll be sending a bit of coolant through the exhaust and head but as you can see it's being turned to steam so I would worry too much as long as you get it fixed soon. Just be sure to keep an eye on your coolant levels though.

That's a intercooler pipe come of or well split. Turbo should be ok.

Can anyone recommend a mobile mechanic in the staffordshire area?

Google VW/Audi specialists in your town and have a look on this website at the "Site sponsors and banner Advertisers" must be someone near you.

Think I've found the issue it seems there is a pipe that's cracked and sheared off but I have no idea what it is? Can anyone is it from these pics? Thanks guys!

Not sure if I'm being blind but where's the pipe that sheared off?

It's in the egr cooler area anyway. New they're around £300 to £350 I think

Ah at the flange, now I see it. Egr cooler I'm afraid.

Is there a write up on changing this or has anyone had any experience changing one? Had a quick look and didn't see any they mainly concentrate on cleaning the valve out! Thx

@IanO where abouts are you in the country? As there is one thing I know about Owners Clubs is that there is always someone nearby that can help out.

I'm in Rugeley which is inStaffordshire mate! Last problem I had a great chap on here called Darren helped me out and I went over to him in Derbyshire! Thx

Thanks Darren, going down the welding route first! I take it the gaskets are dealer only?
