Drop Links

Hello folks.

Long time no post.

Car is 'W' ref A3 8L Quattro

I've had a clonking from the front end and been told the drop links need replacing. I was quoted £120 'per end' which I took to mean front and back.

I tried to book it in at another garage that were doing some work on my girlfriend's car and the bloke said that sounded too much for doing both sides (although he still hasn't come back to me with an estimate). I said that I took 'per end' to mean front and back, but he said the back ones very rarely need doing.

On looking at my Haynes manual it says to do the rear ones you need to take the axel off, so £120 to do the rear ones sounds cheap!

How much should I be looking at for the job on the front? I know it's a fairly straight forward task but due to work commitments I simply don't have the time to do it myself at the moment.

I believe the Haynes manual doesnt cover the quattro or s3

what? 120 quid for drop links? this is the link that attaches the ARB to the front suspension arms? and for the rear they attach to the lower shock mount and would take less than an hour to do all 4?

silent_wolf is correct... haynes does not cover quattro cars... FWD cars don't have drop links at the rear so what do you actually mean by drop links?

I did mine last year, I think I paid around £30 for the front 2 and fitted them on my drive within an hour.

Thanks for the info.

No the Haynes doesn't cover the Quattro but I thought the only bit that wasn't covered was the transmission for the rear wheels.

The first guy I spoke to said drop links for the anti roll bar 'per end'. As I say I'm only guessing he meant front and rear....should have asked in retrospect.

Is there a kit available for doing front and back that includes all I'll need? Do I require any specialist tools? If it only takes an hour might as well do it myself!
