Hi all. Looking for a bit of advice on some new wheels and tyres. I've recently bought a 05 2.0 tdi sport 3 door. I've been looking at buying some 19x8.5 et45 alloys. Ideally i'd like to fit 235/35/19 tyres as they would give a little more protection to the rim than a 225 tyre with a bit of stretch would give. (I've already fitted h&r 35mm springs). Is anyone running 235 tyres on 8.5j with 45mm offset, or know if this set up will work without rubbing issues? Cheers, Jay

Thanks charlie. I've done so much research on the subject but not found a definitive answer. Just want to get it right before ordering. Maybe a odd question but are the arches on a 8p s3 wider than a standard sport a3? As they were om my old 8L
235 tyre on a 8.5J rim ET45 may rub the arch.
@Charlie23 is using 9.5J rims so the tyre has more stretch which could explain why his don't rub. Also as far as I know the S3 bumper arch mounting is higher up than normal A3...and that's why it always rubs first.

I've tried a wheel from my a4 earlier same spec apart from the offset is lower at 35. There is a good inch of clearance from the bumper screw, so a 45 offset should just about clear it loaded up (i hope!)
My last wheels where 235,35,19 and only 8,5j et40 and no rubbing at all, caught now and then with people in the back going over a large bump but only on the bumper screw. Take that out and no running what so ever.
I had 20" alloys on my old A3 lowerd on Pi springs 35mm and no rubbing so you should be fine mate.

Nope had it right the first time haha, 9.5j et35 with 235,35 tyre.
Could do with a 225 tyre as once lowering the front 25/30mm it will sit in nicely.
