I hope someone can help. Trying to change my rear pads but my car doesn't seem to want to play ball. I've tried the step by step ross tech instructions and rather than the epb retracting it does nothing and shows something completely different on vag com to what I think it should? What am I doing wrong? This surely should be simple? Photos of vag come to follow.

I have changed the rear pads on my S4 using this post, worked a treat.
You don't have to have VCDS to complete a brake pad change as Aaron had an alternative method. <br /><br />I found this post by disealdoos:<br /><br />"The electromechanical parking brake is a 12-volt motor that engages and retracts the rear brakes. <br /><br />To retract the rear wheel parking brake, you will need access to a 12-volt battery and two jumper wires. <br />One of the jumper wires should have an insulated clip on the end so you do not short-circuit the wires. <br />When you are looking at the caliper you will see the brake line and electric wire/connector going to the rear caliper. <br />Disconnect the electric connector from the caliper. <br />Inside the connector on the caliper side you will see two medal pins sticking up. Connect the two jumper wires to the 12 volt battery.<br />Take the negative wire jumper and connect it to one of the pins on the caliper. Then take the positive wire and touch the other pin without touching the other jumper wire and causing a short. <br />If the caliper piston starts to push out, stop!, reverse the jumper wires. You should hear the parking brake retract and the piston not move. <br />Continue until the caliper piston starts to spin, stop! Now push the caliper piston back in with a brake tool, c-clamp, etc. Replace pads as you would normally. After all the brakes have been replaced. Pump brake pedal until you have a firm pedal. Check the brake fluid. Then turn on and off the electromechanical parking brake a few times and you should be good to go."<br /><br />Hope this helps you<br/>

took a while and all done. this method worked a treat! anyone else doing this job get a cable that normally goes into dvd players, ps3 etc (the one with the 2 holes at one end thats insulated) strip the outside rubber and you have 2 insulated connectors that fit perfectly and no risk of a short. will post a pic later. thanks for the help saved me a pile of cash.

another tip if the disc wont budge. put the calliper carrier back on but put the longer bolt through the top hole, because its the longer one as you tighten it. it hits the disc and puts pressure from behind, big bang and the disc is free!
