Guys,

How much should i expect to pay to have the AC compressor replaced? mine has ceased i think! Makes a horendous noise and massive vbrations through the car if activated!

Thanks

Rich

similar thing happened to a friend at work. he was quoted £620 from a specialist to fix it (albeit on a vauxhall astra). anyway he got one from a salvage yard and fitted by a local place - back to ice ice baby! think he paid out just over £100.

Obviously not an audi. Get a quote from a local dealer or speciailist and then price up a salvage yard bud :)

Best o' luck!

I think i'd rather go without AC for that much!
Will have to look about and get some prices.

dont expect much change from £1300 from an audi dealer.

Mine started doing the same thing the other night! I can turn the compressor by hand (not sure if thats supposed to happen) and am still getting cold air when its on but the vibration is very bad, you can see the belt tensioner vibrating when its on and not when the compressor is off.

Have you found out any more info?

Has to happen when its scorchio!!!!!!!!!

Its odd....Just for the sake of curiosity, i plugged mine back in a few weeks ago after pulling the plug on the compressor...and it now works again! I'm stumped.

And they say curiosity killed the cat? Bothered!! My A/C works again! lol

Just had my A/C system cheked out today.

The previous owner of my car told me all it needed was a new bottom hose (which i sourced from VeeDubs, Gateshead for £20). Replaced this, then went to an independant A/C specialist (Michael Gasgoine, Thronaby).

He found that the top pipe seal was worn & had been botched a little. The pipe was also full of debris from being dissconected for some length of time.

He told me that the compressor had packed up & off the top of his head quoted me close to £500 all in to supply & fit a new one, also fitting a new cleaner valve (i think that is what he called it anyways).

He did try to enquire if the compressor could be reconditioned, however after a phone call he said it could not :-(

So, now im left with some expensive food for thought!

Would love the A/C to work as it should, but NO WAY am i gonna pay around £500 for the luxury of it!

I have thought about sourcing a used item from VeeDubs, Gateshead... but if it didnt work or didnt for long i long, i would be stuck with a bill for Micheal Gasgoines time! He quoted me around 3 hours labour to remove & install a new item & obviously regass it & make sure all is well. The 3 hours equates to £99 :-(

Cheers, Pete.

£500 is cheap and well worth aircon in this weather.

£33 / hour quoted by this other chap is also exceptionally low!
