Hi
I've got a thin light brown water'y film on the inside of my oil cap. I've been a bit worried I might be getting water in the oil.
No other symptoms and the caramel film is not syrup'y just watery

Is this normal??

Thanks
Iain

sounds like oil to me...

If there was:

* white emulsion on the cap
* white emulsion on the dipstick
* oil floating on top of the coolant in the expansion tank
* excessive steam from exhaust

i'd be worried. But oil on the filler cap sounds kind of normal to me.

Its strange but the underside of the oil filler cap looks fine when the engines cold but more of a caramel colour when the engines hot .

Think your right - nowt to worry about.

I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS IN THE PAST AND HAVE BEEN TOLD ITS DUE TO ME DOING SHORT JOURNEYS, AND THE OIL NOT GETING UP TO TEMP. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.

I got same advice as kane from Audi dealer, i usually make sure i now go on a long journey ( well long for me ) every wk and has got rid of the problem ( condensation )
