hi

My friends s3 is cutting out at 5500rpm. This happens if driven hard or rolling upto those revs with very little throttle.

The power cuts out very virulently not like a normal rev limit.

I have scanned the car with full vagcom but there are no codes.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what this might be?

Thanks

Could be a number of things really.

Possibly coil pack/plugs

Possibly worn cam follower

Check for air leaks.

Check MAF - may not be reading the correct flows, therefore could be running rich/lean.

Is it standard? Age of the car? Approx Mileage?

Could also be camshaft sensor or crankshaft sensor.

If it was a sensor wouldn't there be an error light or at least would show up on vagcom?

The car in question is mine and as described the power violently cuts out at a shade over 5k. It can even cut out earlier in the Rev range if you're using full throttle. It is most confusing :(

This is very similar to Jonse's issued. Turned out to be camshaft sensor but either of the two could be the culprit. If your unsure best to get it to a specialist garage.

I had this problem with my old gsi turned out to be an issue with plugs too much boost was blowing them out not a scientific explanation but my 2p haha got my feeler gauge out took plugs out and closed the gap bit of a barbarian way but sure enough put them back in problem solved haha

Update for you guys... First of all thanks for all your advice.

I went down to my local Audi dealership and bought myself a camshaft sensor, easy to fit and bobs your uncle it solved the problem... Yay!!

Until this weekend that is, after only 300 miles the problem is back as before :-(

Does anyone know why this would reoccur so quickly after being fixed? I'm at a loss and any guidance would be great

Thanks all

I scanned it on vagcom first of all and it didn't return any faults other than something minor to do with the radio

Is there something specific in vagcom I need to do? Can't say I'm that clued up on using it (as im sure you can tell). Think I might have to bite the bullet and take it to the main stealers or a specialist to try and fix if my little brain can't work it out :(

Go to a specialist like Rick or someone locally.

I have the same issue....my audi tts sometimes when I rev it hard violently cuts off at 5500 range but mostly in 2nd gear....ii recently fitted an apr stage 1+ ecu update and an autotek hpfp internals....Did anybody find a solution on this ?

Transfer box. Mine had the same symptoms and nobody could trace it until the transfer box locked up and died.

Hi Gents,

I have same symptoms as mentioned above on my 2009, stock S3.
VCDS shows:
P310B - Low Pressure Fuel regulation: Fuel Pressure Outside Specification

Recently issues started to occur at even lower RPM ( +- 4500),
It happens mostly in 3rd gear, occasionally in 2nd and 4th, and only on hard acceleration.

My HPFP was toast, so I've got new one including cam lobe and new fuel filter, this did not help.
In 2 weeks Im scheduled to change Fuel Pressure Sensor, ill let you know the outcome.

I do hope its not transfer box as it smells expensively.
Any advice will help, as i do not want to throw money on it without any effect.... and i need BCS Powervalve exhaust :D

little update, new fuel pressure sensor did not help so more money into my money-pit.

At least fault occurred during test drive with mechanic. He guess its maybe some sort of boost issue, in next days we will take live data log to see whats really happening.
He noticed that if i floor it from 2-3000 rpm issue is more likely to occur, but if i build revs "gently" till 4000 rpm and than floor it all seems fine.

Looking through this forum seems there are more of us who suffer, so based on advises ill take closer look onto my DV / crank /cam sensor / VVT solenoid.

Hi there anybody solve this issue yet? Have an Audi 8p s3 doing the exact same thing
