Hi,
Just replaced the turbo on my 2.5 TDI A4 Cabrio. The turbo guy advised putting a 20mm hole through the filter gauze just inside the catalytic converter. Looking down inside the catalytic converter there is clearly soot - however is it sensible to drill a hole through the filter gauze?
Any advice out there?

youre car is a B6 so you've posted in the wrong section..

but drilling down through the cat would allow it to breath better. most folk will just stick on a decat pipe but the MOT has got a bit stricter lately as to this.

Smash all the guts out of it and refit it.

Diesels dont require a cat for emissions, however the MOT test does a visual check, so as long as it looks like its there then your all good.

Your engine will feel more lively and boost quicker without the cat.

As said just beat the insides out.

My Signum runs loads better without a cat and DPF fitted
