S3 8l 1999 Central Locking Problem. Help!

Hello,
My S3 8L 1999 was working great but always when i was unlocking\locking i was able to hear the central locking pump.. Now I am hearing it but the car no longer unlocks\lock, but it arms the alarm (blinks the red led when i lock the car).
I assume that if I hear the central locking pump and the alarm arms when i lock the car... the key should be fine.
Also my windows won't open or close from the key like it always did..

Any ideas? Would it be the central locking pump? Should the windows stop working if it's the pump?

Check the pipes aren't broke etc, it's an air pump and they generally melt themselves! Or the pipes become hard brittle and split and give you a big fat air leak
