A3 SD Sat Nav Query

Hi folks,

First post on here. Quick question regarding the SD Sat Nav.
Is it possible to buy a second hand card on ebay for say £50, and get a local Audi dealer to activate the sat nav function with that card (thus saving a few £), or do the card and activation need to be purchased together?

I don't think it is possible to use a second hand card as I believe the card is registered to the original vehicle...

Separate as it's the car that is activated. Loads of threads on here looking at around £500 all in.
