hi all been trooling around the forum and it looked great so i joined up :)

now i have recently got myself and a4 avant b5 1997 i believe.

just had some questions that maybe someone here would be able to answer,

now it looks very tall, would anyone recommend lowering it? and i mean just springs im not getting coilovers and a rough idea on price?

has anyone had one remaped im pretty sure mines the 110bhp any ideas what i could get it up to with a remap if its worth it?

there seems to be an oil leak from the engine but when checking oil level it always seems to be at the same level. if i park it and check it before i drive away they will be oil on the floor maybe 2 3 drops of that even after a whole day so it seems its something that happens when the car is warm???? any ideas or sugestions?

oh just another thing, can anyone tell me why the sound system sounds so terrible? it came with a pioneer stereo and im assuming the speakers on there are the original ones.?

also if anyone knows where i can go to get remote central locking on the keys as the key doesnt have it?

Welcome to audi-sport.net. Have a read of the faqs threads at top of this section. Im sure of the guys be along shortly. Enjoy the forum. :) x

Welcome

If your b5 has a red i on the TDi badge on back then its the 110bhp model

As for lowering the car i would personally leave it alone as speedbumps come in different heights

As for mapping the car jbh has had his done and had a 30bhp increase and better fuel economy

With keys the problem is that they will have to be coded to the car

What part of the country are you from as there are members out there willing to help

thanks davy im in braintree essex.

do you think it will look better with 18 or 17 inch alloys? as at the moment it looks like 15 maybe 14s not sure but looks very tall, yes it does have the red i on the back after the tdI. is that good? been reading and aaprently the 110bhp is a better engine then the 115 is that true?

would you have an idea on the remaping price?

Thanks for your help :)

The SE setup does leave the car a little high, I had Audi sports setup on my B5 but the springs and shocks were worn out, so replaced with bilstein shocks and went for eibach pro springs, as it was the same ride height as the sport.

Eibach springs get my vote too, mine came in at just shy of 200, but that's a Quattro, I believe the fwd ones are a bit cheaper.
Haven't had any trouble with speed humps. I've got 17 on it, I think 18s fill the arches better

would it be ok just getting the springs?or would that not be advisible at all???

and as far as remaping goes, can mine be remaped? or do i need oneof them tuning boxes? what is the best option?

shockers will be 17 years old, I bet they are shot by now if they are still the original on the car.

My vote goes to the eibach springs as well.
as for shockies you're probably best to check condition of the ones on the car before you decide to replace or not.

again remap for the 110bhp mines has been chipped by ECU Remapping Audi VW BMW Seat Skoda Remap Chip Tuning and ive no complaints.
she pulls a lot better and is getting better fuel economy.
at the age of your car it can't be remapped live it needs chipped.

I've had my ecu in 2 cars. first one being a 2wd 1996 and now its in my 1997 quattro and it does make a difference.
the car feels a lot more livelier and nicer to drive.

as for your oil leak have you checked the power steering fluid? it could be the pump leaking slightly

If its SE spec at the moment then it almost certainly needs lowered. Sport suspension models will get away with stock height on 16" wheels, but bigger wheels tends to look silly.

Eibach Pro-kit gets my vote too, i have them on both my B5's, a little pricey but worth it. OEM ride quality, and a "just right" ride height.

Remap is defo worthwhile.

The stereo might be missing the lead for the rear amp, which means only the front speakers will work. You need a PC9-404 to fix it if its that.

Keys will depend on the locking pump fitted. If its the early 4A0 type, you'll need to use an aftermarket kit like RClick. If its the later 8D type, you can either buy an aftermarket kit, or buy a factory remote pump and keys.

thanks for that, would the 2 rca cables conected to the back of the radio be the ones goin to the amp? as i have unpluged them both the minute i bough the car as i though the guy had aftermarket amp on there and just lefts rca's conected. does it come with an amp ?? woow loving audi more everyday :) will go and conect the 2 rcas back and see what its like.

Aragorn sory to be a pain, but can you tell me where that amp is located?

If you have an aftermarket radio with rca's than there is a good chance that the amp isn't/wasn't stock. Check your boot for the other side of rca's as that is were aftermarket amps would be fitted 90% of time. Or, under the rear seat if the seller wanted to hide wires.

Mine is SE spec... Like a monster truck lol, next time I break a spring I'll lower it and do shocks at the same time. Just done front arms and all discs and pads, and replaced all the old fuel pipes with rubber 10mm internal diameter fuel hose. Fits perfectly inside the clips for the old pipes.

heres my old 2wd 110 tdi avant sitting on eibach pro kit.
wheels were 17"

Mine sits lower, might just be because its a quattro though:

that sits nice Kev. my avant hadn't really settled when that picture was took. they had just been fitted that day.

looking at your picture the next time mines breaks a spring ill be buying an eibach kit for my quattro.

your year B5 uses 4d0837231r 2 button remote. However not all B5's actually have remote locking. I've been to a fair few that haven't had remote locking. If it doesn't then you can change the central locking pump for 1 that has remote locking. These are easy to fit & can be found cheap enough on Ebay.

Then it's a case of getting a remote programmed to it
