What does the anti shudder valve do?

Afternoon all,

Does the the anti shudder valve only activate just as you turn off the engine? There's an awful lot of wires going to it if that's the case.

It moves to the close position and back when you turn off so I know it's working.

That's my understanding of it. Cuts the air supply to the engine when the ignition is turned off, for a smoother shut off.

Also useful if the engine starts to run on it's own oil, such as when the turbo seals go and oil is dumped into the inlet. Without it when this happens even when the engine is shut off it will continue to run.

As already suggested the anti shudder ensures that the air supply is cut off thus stopping the engine and helping to avoid a runaway engine in extreme circumstances.
