Is it the power steering pump??

Morning Chaps,


Need some help/advice my 2001 AMK s3 has started making a strange groaning / grinding noise at low speed moving in traffic and when parking, At higher speeds no noises.


So I've searched it on here and looks like it could be the power steering pump, anyway to confirm it ? I did the lock to lock test when stationary and there is a hiss / groan from the pump, but no where as loud as when moving. When I checked the fluid it was a little low, but since being topped up it seems ok, and bottom of radiator seems dry and leak free.


If anyone can help me confirm it before ordering a new one that would be great.

It's funny you should say this as mine has started to make a noise when turning left at slow speeds so I guess it was either the pas pump or my outer cv joint.

Is it not fixed now you have topped up the fluid ?
Mine sounds like Chewbacca with low fluid.

No still noisy, after it was topped up.
