    Hi guys newbee here!

Bought a lovely 1.9TDI Sport Sportback last week and having previously owned a 2.0FSI 3dr A3 I still had a set of 18" RS6 235/40/18 replicas sitting in the garage

Anyway, I thought i'd stick them on, then last night with a couple of people in the back and driving along a not so smooth road the dredded rubbing noise occurred!!

I looked inside the alloy and can see ET 35 printed on them, and i must admit the wheels do look like the stick out a little!

Cut a long story short, did I get supplied the wrong wheels - ET 35 and if so what are my options to stop the rubbing?

Im tempted to buy new wheels but what offset and size do i need?

Did you have them fitted to your old A3? as unfortunately the set that you've got are the wrong fitment. The genuine A3 ones are ET54, but the replicas for the A3 all seem to be ET45. I think the ones you have could be for the A4

Yeah they used to rub on the 04 3dr A3 too! ******** at South Coast wheels have done me over, I purposely told them what car they were for! They obviously only had them in stock and wanted my money!

Yes mate they are A4 spec, even down to the tyres which are also too big. A3's should have 225/40/18's, not 235's which incidentally...is standard on A4's!!

replicas for the A3 should be 225/40/18 ET45

thanks for advice guys, Im right in thinking i require 225/40/18 ET45?

I want to buy another set of RS6 wheels the same as i have, where is best to get them from? I dont want to spend big money and would be more than happy with replicas again! not overly sure about buying off ebay!

i got 19 et45 and they are spot on (even et40-42 should just fine) . tyres 215/35/19. but i reckon you should be fine with 225/35/19. question is if you wanna lower your car or not.

ET42 is what I have & they are absolutely perfect, no rubbing & the fronts sit perfect & look wide but no rubbing, no need for spacers for wider stance on front & rears would only rub if spacers used, nice overall stance.

I had ET45 8.5x19" with 235/35/19 and got constant rubbing when lowered with coilovers.

Changed to ET52 8x19" with the same tyres and still got too much rubbing. Changed to 225/35/19 Conti's and the rubbing has disappeared.

But if you want to avoid any rubbing, keep as close to OE as possible.

New wheels just arrived, went with a set of RS6 Replicas 225/40/18

I ordered et45 but i just had a look in the back of them and they state et42

will that be suffient? i mean the whole point i have bought these is because the et35 were rubbing with people in the back, though they did have 235s on!

Should i fit them or not? will et42 be fine?

Well difference beng mines a 3dr, but the clearance would be the same on both IMHO, but as an example, my car was fully loaded when I drove to italy & I mean fully loaded with suspension dropped due to weight, whole boot & back seats were full to the brim, not once did they rub, havnt rubbed once so far in just under 2 years, but of course thats only my experience, but seem to be ok for me

turns out when i put the new ones on today, the old ones where infact 225/40/18 with et35

the new ones are 225/40/18 et42 (i ordered 45 but they sent 42, when i phoned they said 42 would be fine)

so all i have gained by changing technically is the wheels are now 7mm further inset in towards the car?

Is that really going to be enough to stop the rubbing? do you think i should demand they come and get these and send me the et45s?

Only reason i did all this was to cure the rubbing! if the 7mm is enough then fine but i dont want to risk using the wheels if they need to go back?

7mm is better and might sort it but its a ******* joke that they can't supply you with the right wheels. ET42 isn't ideal for an A3, and there are higher offset wheels on the market. So many wheel places are lazy and supply whatever they can buy in cheap, or have left on the shelf.

what should i do then? fit them and use them? and its cost me £500 for 7mm or demand the et45?

I wouldn't fit ET42 myself when I know much better fitments are available on the market.

should i ask for 45s or get my moneyback? can you get et50 anywhere?
