Cost of clutch for a 1.6 2004 Petrol

Hi,

Just been driving my wife's 1.6 (04 plate) and its pretty obvious the clutch is slipping. She said last time she mentioned it to the garage they said to leave it for now as it would be "expensive".

Admittedly its been at least 10 years since I had a car that needed a clutch changed but it can't be that expensive or complicated can it? It's only a 1.6 petrol. Surely about a ton for the clutch and 2 or 3 hours labour?

Any ideas?

Yeah £120 ish for the clutch - check GSF website.
All in should be less that £500. Don't think you have a DMF on it do you?

Don't think it has a DMF. It looks like the same setup as my old 1.6 Golf.

Where are you based ?

Not many clutches are 2-3 hours these days, many book at 6+

Have a good VAG indie who do both our cars. They were the ones who said to leave it, but that was a year ago.
