Hi guys,
I'm brand new on here, so here goes I've got 2003 A4 tdi avant.
And I've just developed an electrical problem last week, first of all my wife noticed
water coming in above her feet. But before I could investigate this problem rose its ugly head.
So I removed battery and cleared plenum drains, which I was surprised to find such a simple thing causing
such a big problem.
But me electrical problem is still there, basically I've got no wipers, horn, indicators or lights and after an afternoon
at my friends garage found the remote fob on key not working either.
I hope someone on here can help me and point me in right direction.
also which side of the car is convenience panel on.
thanks in advance
Ross

I assume you have checked all fuses?

water on the drivers side is usually a sign water has got in the ecu box

the comfort control module is on the passenger side under the carpet under the seat if this get wet it can cause all sorts of problems

Yes, sorry I forgot to say I checked all the fuses. I took cover off Ecu under bonnet and I was dry,
the wiring under dash on drivers side had signs of being wet.
I dried what I could with hot air gun, but passenger footwell is bone dry.

the problem is you really need to lift the carpet as its that thick you cant always feel it as it can run down the back and not wet the carpet!

i think the problem on ecu side is under the box? im sure someone who has had the problem will give you all the details

Hi Ste nova,
just got back in from work and pulled carpet back on both sides,
N/s/f bone dry
o/s/f soaking I mean REALLY WET which I've mopped up for now
but after leaving It for today the ****** central locking/ alarm key fob is now working.
so I'm now thinking is it worth letting dry out for another couple of days.
before buying a new ignition switch, which someone recommended changing apparently they are common fault
but I'll see in couple of days and let you's know.

The central convenience module is under the passenger (i think) seat - this controls the windows, central locking.etc
This commonly gets wet and breaks when the carpets get wet.

Hi I'm back,
right I've bought new ignition switch, fitted it and no change
Has anyone any ideas where to go from here.
Thanks

Hi,
Finally found my problem, Ignition control module water damaged due to water
ingress because of plenum drains blocked.
£250 for part and some patience from myself and friend at local garage.
But glad i'm back on road now
cheers for all advice
