Offered an A3 2.0 Fsi with Coolant Leak Problems

Hi guys, im new to this forum & have been flirting with the idea of owning an Audi A3. Ive just been offered a really not looked after A3 2.0 fsi 2003 with a coolant leak problem. Im looking at it as head replacement job but you never know, the car sounds ruff running and the story behind the leak was it was run low on coolant during the winter earlier this year. Its leaking from the front of the engine but what concerns me is the engine sounding rough...

Worst case being the engine needing to be replaced, you thoughts/ ideas guys?

Leave alone and buy a proper car... Early cars are cheap enough out there now, and do your searching and homework and you can get a good nice honest car.

Depends how cheap, Get a mechanic to have look at it?

I bought mine which wasnt looked after, it ran rough but after i serviced it changing the DSG filter and oil its been fine since (2yrs).
I also agree with the above post, you can find early 2003-2005 models quite cheap saving you alot of hassle.

£1500, I am a mechanic so to say but ive never taken on extensive engine work before. I specialise with the Golf mk4 & i would be buying this to learn more about it. To be honest ill strip this car naked & rebuild it but id like to atleast get some experience trying to fix it that's all

For £1500 it must be worth a punt if your doing work yourself, Don't get nowhere without taking risks....

bargain, if the brown hits the fan then just sell all the parts and probably make a £1 or 2.

Actually id say it was a really bad deal, Give me the guys phone number and ill make sure no one else gets caught out by this
