BIG belt job on my S4

Well its that time

next week I have to do:

Cambelt kit inc ALL tensioners
Alternator
New lightweight Alloy front pulley
Uprated Vibratechnics engine and tranny mounts
Sparks
Waterpump
New Genuine coolant
All aux tensioners and pulleys

mod my front bumper to get better air to the I/C

perhaps fit my oil cooler

should be good...... :)





if anyone is bored and wants to come down! ;-)
 
You got the required cam locking bar?

I'm about to start this on craigs S4 today. Looks like its going to **** down as well :(
 
I'm lucky enough that the previous owner did all this to mine some 1500 miles ago. I wouldn't relish the job either...
 
in some odd twisted way i am looking forward to making sure its all correct and cleaned etc etc

Horrible job. Crank locking pin is near enough impossible to fit without dismantling half the engine.

So i did it without.

Used the locking bar, and a puller to remove the cam pulleys.

It runs, MOT tomorrow :)
 
The hole for the crank lock pin is on the right side of the block, near to the rear of the aircon pump. You need to remove the plastic blanking plug held in with a 10mm bolt. With the engine @ TDC screw in the locking tool, you may need to move the crank/engine on the dwell of TDC a little to wind in/secure the pin in place.

With the pin in place and the cam-locking bar you can set the cam timing and tension the belt with out the bottom end moving. When setting the cam belt tension with the locking bar in place, ensure the cam pulleys are slack and turn freely. Once the belt tension is set, tighten the cam pulleys, remove both locking tools and rotate the engine two full turns. Refit the locking tools, you may have to slacken off the cam pulleys and repeat until the locking tools drop into their place with out further adjustment.

Simples.....
 
yeh, but the hole for the pin is buried down the back of the entire world.

I'd have had to remove half the turbo pipework to get into it.

You'll need a puller to remove the cam pulleys off the tapers.

However if you do the job for a living/correctly this is what you should do.
 
yep. Its probably easier on a ramp too, where you can look properly and see whats going on. Rolling around on the floor isnt nice!
