Weird rumbling sound from front

In the last few weeks I have noticed a very feint rumbling sound coming from the front of the car somewhere - more noticeable when turning right slowly.

I cant quite tell where it is coming from and it sort of sounds like a very subtle knocking/rumbling. I cant feel this through the steering or pedals.

It has started to become a little more prominent and is happening a lot more often whereas before I only noticed it sometimes on some turns.

Any ideas what this can be?

Sounds like a CV joint to me, had mine go a few months ago and had the same symptoms.
Part is approx £45 + £60 labour, dont bother going to Audi for parts i got mine from GSF.

Wheel bearing?

Do you notice any clicking on full steering lock (usually indicative that you've lost a tooth on the CV joint).

Always worth checking your driveshaft boots at the same time as they're cheap and easy to install if you're doing the whole job.

my guess would be CV joint too. They are always more noticeable on full lock, or in the case of the one I did today - snapped in two lol.

Following on from this...

I've had a VW specialist look at my car twice now and he cant find anything that's causing the sound - doesn't help that he claims to not be able to hear it though when he takes it out.

For me, it's getting worse now.

Only happens when turning right - more so when turning right round a mini island slowly. And recently, I can hear it when driving in a straight line on very small bumps in road but nowhere near as bad as when turning right. When I turn left, nothing can be heard.

The sound is more prominent now too - a kind of creaking/rumbling sound coming from the front area.

I'm just scared something is gonna drop off at some point but my mechanic said he couldn't see any probs.

Any more ideas that I could throw at him?

Does it change over different surfaces or when rd is wet? I have this rumbling that I believe it's from one tyre.

Does it change when going faster or slower? Is it like a repetition?

It's not the tyre as I've had them moved to the back and some new ones put in at the front. It's not a repetition either - just a random rumbling/creaking sound which I can hear more when turning slowly and tight.

Possible your camber maybe. Have the alignment checked?

Im also having this problem... ive put new cv joints on, tracking all perfect.. the only thing i can put it down to is the steering rack on mine.. found a company who re-con them for £160.. thats my next move..

Could you please keep us posted on whether a re-con steering rack fixes this issue?

I have new tyres, alignment is perfect and it's still there.

In my experience a wheel bearing will either squeal when it has dried the grease out and is heating up and wearing/seizing or rumble when it has dried up from less use so the bearings have worn and are slack. Simple test is to jack front wheel and grip at 12 and 6 and try to wobble wheel.
Does it stop if you gently press the brake when it is making the noise as this often stops a noisy wheel bearing as the braking action pulls the wheels stress off the bearing.

If its a cv joint usually you get a clicking sound as normally when the gator splits and decorates the bottom of your engine in grease or if you have been putting alot of power through it the pins/ fingers wear and rattle/slop about. normally makes a noise even at low speed if put on full lock and pull away more like a click/clonk noise. This is down to the stress of driving and being at an angle. You can check..... but has to be well worn by jacking car up sticking it in gear and spinning wheel back and forth.... but be careful as you can still make it make a noise even when fine but it would be alot louder if was badly worn.

Diffs usually whine as do gearboxes if they are on their way out as the gears start to rattle or not align correctly.
