Does running an s3 on 95 ron have any adverse affects on the engine or just a slight loss of power, didnt realise until after i had bought it that 98 ron was recommended.

Why risk it for the few pennies it will save, I always pay for v power my S3 has had nothing but for 7 years. In theory no issues but if your after saving ££££ get a soot chucker.

I use 95 ron and have had no problems it says in the manual you can even use 91 ron!

You can use 95 ron and the ECU will adapt pulling timing out etc... if you engine has been remapped however I would be tempted to run 98/99 ron simply due to the fact that most remaps are designed to take advantage of the extra timing advance using higher octane fuel will allow... using 95 ron on a map designed to run 98/99 ron will pull lots more timing than is normal and can on rare occasions cause damage from detonation...

The ECU will pull up to 12 degrees if it has too but there are too many factors to say exactly how close to the mark any one engine is... Revo will let you turn down the timing so you can run the engine on lower octane stuff...

If you are unsure on any of this then my advice is to get the car logged for timing pull using VAGCOM at the very least (block 020) or take it to a specialist...

It's not the price i'm worried about, its the 60 mile round trip to the nearest filling station with 98 ron!!
