8L headlights

ive seen a few posts about members upgrading the headlights on the a3 8l. i have a 1997 1.8t. Could someone point me in the right direction of what lights i should be looking for? ie is it the 2001 model lights? Also heard that with the upgrade the lights aren't as powerful so they install hid kits...is that correct? Really would like to upgrade...if anyone is selling any that would very useful..

I don't think its a case of them be brighter, its just that the facelift headlights have projector lenses so wont dazzle oncoming traffic with hid's

with the headlights being projector, apart from the little alteration u need to do fit the light in, is there anything i need or is it just swapping them and using the existing bulb setup?
