I have a '98 A4 1.8T. Monday, in the cold weather, the timing belt tensioner failed causing the timing belt to fail. The dealer says new valves & head ~ $4500. Any suggestions? New engine at a dealer runs $9000. Is it worth fixing the current engine? Would a refurbished engine be better? A new engine in a '98 doesn't seem to make sense.
