went to my local (Eurocarparts) today for some oil and when they put my reg in for my 2003 2.0tdi 140 sport , the oil they said i needed was 5w40 , lookin on various threads it says i should use 5w30 ??? im very confused can someone help ? cheers

5w30 is less than 100k milage oil is thin and 5w40 high milage like over 100k and is more thicker

from Opie oils:
Castrol EDGE Turbo Diesel 5W-40 has been developed to meet VW & Audi Diesel specifications (VW 505 01). It is especially designed for use in VW TDI engines using Electronic Unit Injectors (Pumpe Duse).

This product should not be used in PD models equipped for VW Longlife extended service intervals (indicated by letters QG1 on the VIN plate - see handbook for details) as Castrol EDGE 5W-30 contains the specifications for these vehicles
(504 00, 507 00).

This product is recommended for Oil Drain Intervals of 15,000km or annual change.

Same here, 507 is the better spec for longlife service intervals but I'm changing mine at 12months 6000miles max for best of both worlds

My Exact thoughts, and the reason why i'm buying Oil between services lol 4litres or 5litres needed?
