Bonnet open warning came on "at speed"

Right before I get heavily slated for doing serious speed. Please read the following:

I have a friend who owns a private airbase who likes cars and we were doing some high speed runs on it last night to see how fast we could go. The cars were on private property and therefore no speed limits applied.

Right now I have that out the way I was driving along. On my tomtom I reached 163mph when my bonnet open warning light came on. I instantly started slowing down through fear of the bonnet flying off but was interested in knowing if anyone else has had the same issue. When I got the car under 140 the light switched off and everything was fine. Got out and looked to see if the bonnet had bent or buckled or anything but doesnt look like it has.

What is the possibility of the bonnet "flying off" at this sort of speed.

I thought I would ask the question but to anyone who just wants to reply and say "you shouldnt have been doing the speed" please don't reply. I knew the risks I was taking and was on my own doing the "test".

well if the bonnet did come off even at that speed id be haveing words with audi
i doubt it will fly open tho

It was a little worrying at the time, had a good look around on the car today but no signs of any damage to anything. Feel a little embarrassed to contact audi about the problem if i'm honest, with all the experience I have had with them recently.

How sensitive is the switch under the bonnet? How much does the bonnet need to lift to fire the switch?

i dont know how much it needs lifting
but its not like your gona be doin that speed everyday
id just have a quick word and ask them

well there made to go that speed so id think all parts would be made to match
but it would be scary
my cossi bonnet flew up at 90mph on the M1 that was scary

I always thought the RS4 was electronically limited to only go up to 150!?!

You are correct, however mine seems to have no sign of a restrictor at all, whether or not a previous owner had de-restricted or not I don't know.

I wouldn't bother asking Audi as they'll just state that the car should be restricted to 155mph.

That's exactly why I would feel embarrassed to contact them about it, thought about asking someone like a tuning specialist or something as they may have come across the issue.

Not really too worried about it to be honest as said before it's not like every day I do that sort of speed, just had an opportunity to really push the car and took the offer up!
