Where is the sensor for the speedometer?

Can anyone tell me where the speedometer sensor is located on a 8L A3 1.8T? The speedo on my friends car had stopped working and after a quick VCDS scan it reported a problem with it. I cleared the error and it seems to be working ok now but I thought I'd give it a clean if it's easyish to locate.

My s3's vehicle speed sensor was in the gearbox. Caused my speedo to stop working as there was 3mm of stripped wire that shorted out, swapped the sensor and everything worked again.

It was a bit fiddily, you'll need to remove the air box. Sorry I haven't got any pictures of where it is on the box on my phone or on photobucket.

I do have a picture of my VSS though

Stupid second hand gearbox!

Thinking about it there was two reasons why my speedo failed, the above, and the reverse switch wires were stripped.

So if I remove the airbox I can access this sensor from above? is it easy enough to spot with the airbox out?

It's down the side of the gearbox mate, between the gearbox and baulkhead, so I don't think you can see much of it, but definitely airbox need to be removed. Only one screw holding the sensor in, and a firm tug to pull out, as it had a rubber o ring seal.
